And why it should be again.
It was the Dallas Fashion & Art Show, one part gallery and one part runway. I'm sorry if you missed it because no part of it was ever boring. There was even a few elves and pixies walking around. And warning, this post is long and image-intense. ;)
I got there at 7 PM, which was the time listed on the website, but the show didn't start till after 8:30 so I had a good hour+half to look at some work done by featured (I'm proud to say) Dallas artists. I'm not the kind of person to look at art and pretend to like/understand it because everyone else does - so putting it simply, there were some pieces that were truly intriguing. For example, the over-sized Madonna cups that commanded the room. Green, yellow, covered in lights with two long nipple-things... How could you not say "WOW"? I also loved these mindbending/altering pieces above. It's Mod meets Club... ClubMod (>_<)
I was especially impressed by Stephen Hartzler, an interesting character with a giant bisexual symbol around his neck. His sculpture caught my eye first: a broken angel that was neither angelic nor heavenly, but loud and reminiscent of traffic signs. STOP FOR SALVATION (O.o?) The magic came in the picture where the wings' reflective properties could really shine.
There was a small food demonstration by reality star-chef Blythe Beck. Her food on Oxygen's Naughty Kitchen looks better than what she served that night. The taste and texture (gooey rice) weren't working for me.

Then came the runway show, 6 local fashion designers showing some of their best work. With a name like "Dallas Fashion & Art", I really expected something over-the-top and Avant-Garde. Some designers did not disappoint. Artist Chris Judy showed off his painted jeans, which of course are the perfect examples of fashion+art hybrids. Mari Hidalgo's ReWerked Vintage line did best in embodying the event's theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Maristella Citelli was one of my favorites; her Memories collection captured ancient Athenian beauty, blended with the modern ease that is so popular right now. But there were two dresses that really characterized fashion+art: one by Morgan LaRochelle and the other by Sakia Lekoundzou. Actually both collections were really full of arty pieces. Lekoundzou's had a variety of shapes and textures - there was something almost Vampiric about her collection.

Can't wait for the next one! Hope you'll come to!
