That's why about two weeks ago, the Legal Hospice gave us Fashion Cited: A Style Event - a Thursday night runway show to raise awareness and funds for its free legal services to terminally ill or HIV+ people.
Guests enjoyed the open bar and hors d'oeuvres before the show as I snapped a couple of pics.
I also went backstage because we all know that's where the real action is and, apparently, they do feed the models! Lol! I also checked out their nifty runway board, with post-its that could easily rearrange the order of the models. I don't think I've ever seen it done that way before.
Then, the lights dimmed and the show started with the Honorary Chairs Dr. Clint and Breah Herzog. This would not be Dr. Herzog's only presence on the runway. I spoke with his assistant at the closing of the night about seeing her boss in a speedo.
The lawyers who make the Legal Hospice possible were also recognized in their own mini runway show: The Lawyers of Style.
It seemed like an oxymoron because they looked like layers until the guy in the blue jacket came out. Now this is my kind of lawyer.
Among the designers who showed that night were local celebs Abi Ferrin, Shirin Askari, House of Dang and Tora Tonini. Tonini's collection Sky Girls included some high-waisted bikinis. It's one of those retro styles that I'm not too excited about a come-back. The rest of it, however, was chic mod.
Francisco Flores, one of the coordinators for the event, also caught my attention with a little bit of lace. His first pieces weren't showstoppers but his lace pieces garnered some applause and w00ts! from the audience.
Also of note was a collection of Sunday hats that looked like they should have been worn to church by Lady Gaga.
